Whitstable Town Friendly

Written by Peter Pitts on 19th July 2017

The score line was 2-1 to Whitstable Town but as this was the first real get together of the new Sittingbourne squad this was a very encouraging performnace, especially in the second half when it was all Sittingbourne. Its been a long time since I've seen a Sittingbourne team take on and run at players like the team did in this game and how refreshinbg it was. There was bags of skill on show and manager Nick Davis must be pleased with the early signs.

Whitstable Town have a team that should look good enough to challenge for the SCEL title this season and they were buoyed by their  pre-season victory last week over Faversham Town  and they had the better of the first half, scoring two goals, as the Sittingbourne squad were getting to know each other. Harry  Goodger gave Whitstable an early lead with a simple header glanced wide of Darren Hawkes who was in goal for the Brickies in the first half. The second Town goal came from another header, this time by Tom Brian,  following a free kick  that really should have been cleared. The nearest Sittingbourne came to scoring in the first half was  when George Blake sent in great effort that sailed just over the crossbar.

The second half saw a complete transforamation as Sittingbourne took a grip on the game. The consolation goal came following a long throw by Chris Elliott that Sittingbourne captain Ben Gorham fired home. The approach work by the Brickies was great and this display augurs well for the new season.
