Tony Rickson's thoughts on the season

Written by Tony Rickson on 23rd April 2017

Here’s a few of my highlights in a Sittingbourne season I’ve really enjoyed:
Favourite goal – Josh Wisson’s dramatic headed equaliser in injury time at Carshalton, Tom Carlse’s late winners at Three Bridges or at home to East Grinstead, a superb individual goal by Miles Cornwell on the first day of the season at Cray – but the best of all has to be Hicham Akhazzan’s landmark 100th in the home match with Herne Bay.
Favourite match – The 4-0 hiding of Hythe Town.
Favourite trip – Guernsey. Good day out, though the match was comparatively poor.
Favourite away win – Ramsgate, to complete the double over the Ward brothers.
Most disappointing match – That home defeat by Bury Town in the FA Trophy.
Best pre-season signing – Simon Overland. Replacing Adam Molloy can’t have been easy.
Best signing during the season – Joe Loft. What a team player.
Top man – Nick Davis. Deserves to go a long way in football.
Funniest moment – Stefan Wright introducing himself to the referee on the plane to Guernsey: “Hello, I’m number seven, Steven Ita – I expect we’ll meet again later.”
Best attitude – Jack Steventon laughing at the Faversham fan who annoyingly kept trying to goad him on Easter Monday, and a smiling Tom Carlse clapping the hundreds of Guernsey fans who’d booed him throughout for daring to appeal for a penalty against them.
Best fans – A coachload to a match takes us back 20 years – who knows how good the support could grow to be with a winning start to next season.
